
Monique Montgomery is a native of Columbus,
Miss. She graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi
in 1998 with a bachelor's degree in paralegal studies and a minor
in speech communication. She went on to law school at Mississippi
College School of Law, graduating in 1995. Montgomery has experience
in both the civil and criminal arenas.
She has worked as legal counsel for Alexander's
Home Health in Columbus, as international contracts coordinator
for CNN, and as Clay County public defender. She worked for Turner
and Associates, and then started her own private practice in Columbus.
She maintained that practice until May of 2003, when she joined
The Colom Law Firm.
Montgomery also served for three semesters
as an adjunct professor at Mississippi University for Women, where
she taught Torts, Criminal Law and Introduction to Paralegal Studies.
She is a member of the Mississippi Supreme
Court Gender Fairness Task Force, Business and Professional Women,
the Mississippi Bar Association Women in the Profession Committee
and the Young Lawyer's Division, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority,
Inc. She sat on the Columbus-Lowndes Economic Development Association
board of directors from 1998-2000. She serves as a Daisy Girl
Scout Leader, is First Lady of Missionary Union Baptist Church,
and was the recipient of the 2001 Young Careerist Award. Montgomery
is married to Rev. Tony Montgomery Sr. They have three children:
Brooke, Tony II and Sarah.
